Hyderabad
History
Hyderabad was founded in 1591 by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, who established it as the capital of the Golconda Sultanate. The city flourished as a center of trade, culture, and art, especially known for its diamonds and pearls. In 1687, the Mughal Empire, under Emperor Aurangzeb, annexed the region. Later, it became the seat of the Asaf Jahi dynasty, known as the Nizams, who ruled under British suzerainty from the 18th to mid-20th century. Hyderabad joined India in 1948 after the Indian army’s Operation Polo, transitioning from a princely state to a modern metropolis.
Sights
A city rich in history and culture, boasts iconic landmarks like the Charminar, Golconda Fort, and Mecca Masjid. The Salar Jung Museum and Chowmahalla Palace showcase its royal past, while Hussain Sagar Lake and Birla Mandir offer peaceful retreats. Visitors can also explore the grand Ramoji Film City, the historic Qutb Shahi Tombs, and the vibrant Laad Bazaar, making Hyderabad a must-see destination for all.
Cuisine
Hyderabadi cuisine is a flavorful mix of Mughlai, Turkish, and Telugu influences, known for its rich spices and slow-cooked dishes. The city's famous Hyderabadi Biryani, paired with Mirchi Ka Salan and Dahi Chutney, is a must-try, along with the hearty Haleem and melt-in-your-mouth kebabs. For a taste of local favorites, head to Paradise Biryani, Shadab, or Shah Ghouse. Don’t miss the iconic Irani Chai with Osmania biscuits or sweet treats from Karachi Bakery and Pulla Reddy. Hyderabad’s food scene is a delicious reflection of its cultural heritage.
